L3Harris Invests in Australia’s Defence Capabilities with New Centre of Excellence

The Albanese Government marked a significant milestone with the launch of L3Harris Technologies’ new Centre of Excellence (COE) for Electronic Warfare (EW) in Brisbane, Queensland. This state-of-the-art facility will specialize in the design, manufacture, integration, and maintenance of advanced EW technology crucial for contemporary military operations.

Jennifer Howard, Queensland’s Minister for Treasury, Trade, and Investment, along with Graham Perrett MP, Federal Member for Moreton and member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Trade, officiated at the centre’s opening ceremony.

“Queensland is a Defence state, and the government supports Defence industries via the Queensland Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan, as well as the Queensland Space Industry Strategy. L3Harris’ new operations in Queensland will contribute to a vibrant and growing defence supply chain, with their investment helping them better support the needs of the Australian Defence Force and the Australian defence industry,” Howard said.

The COE will also act as the focal point for L3Harris’ space, intelligence, and cyber products across Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. The facility will reduce turnaround times by boosting local manufacturing capabilities and creating jobs in advanced technologies such as quantum sensing, robotics, secure communications, and data management.

The Australian facility will facilitate the delivery of T4™ and T7™ robots as part of the Land-154 program, enhancing the ADF’s ability to neutralize and exploit improvised explosive devices. These robots, equipped with advanced cameras and features, are designed to detect, examine, and neutralize explosive threats, thereby ensuring the safety of Australian person

L3Harris operates 15 locations across Australia, employing over 550 people, with 30% of the workforce being former ADF members. The company provides mission systems, communication systems, and dedicated support services to the Royal Australian Air Force, Navy, and Army across all domains.
