India to Host its First Multinational Air Exercise ‘Tarang Shakti 2024’

India is set to host its inaugural multinational air exercise, ‘Tarang Shakti 2024,’ in two phases, in Sular, Tamil Nadu, and Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Nearly 30 countries will participate, with 10 sending fighter aircraft to demonstrate their capabilities. The exercise aims to showcase India’s defence capabilities and foster greater interoperability among the participating militaries.

At a press conference in New Delhi, Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS) Air Marshal A.P. Singh announced that the first phase will take place in Sular from August 6 to 14, and the second phase will be held in Jodhpur from August 29 to September 14. Phase I features France, Germany, Spain, and the UK. Phase II includes the USA, Singapore, Australia, Bangladesh, Greece, UAE. Additionally, 18 countries will participate as observers.

Air Marshal Singh highlighted that the exercise will feature India’s indigenous fighter aircraft and equipment, including the Tejas, Rafale, Mirage 2000, Jaguar, and MIG-29. The exercise will also include flying and ground training, defence exhibitions, and cultural exchange programs. Participating defence personnel will visit Indian tech companies as part of the event. India had invited 51 countries to take part in the exercise.

“This exercise aims to strengthen strategic relations with our friends from the international community. Complex missions are planned to enhance our mutual understanding of air operations. It is an excellent opportunity for all of us to share our best practices with each other,” said Vice Chief Air Marshal AP Singh.

Tarang Shakti 2024 aims to boost military cooperation, showcase India’s defence industry, and support the country’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). The exercise will facilitate interoperability and professional exchanges, offering valuable insights into contemporary aerial combat strategies.
